Oktober is Revolution

I am back from my marathon. Yes, I did finish. You can check my stats by entering Bib #5270 on the Portland Marathon 2000 results. As for the press quote: Veni, Vidi, Vici.

Right now I am chilling and resting my body. I will be training for the Seattle Marathon in just a few days — the plan is to improve my time, and then take a break for the rest of the year. Then I will go on a journey to someplace. When I come back from that, I will begin training for a triathlon, and see where that goes. I hope it can carry me to Athens 2004, but maybe it won't. I can only try. Anyway, welcome to Oktober, and all it stands for.

Watching the first Presidential Debate today was interesting. I don't think there was any clear winner, but both looked pretty good. Still, I am sure I will go with Al Gore. I wish Ralph Nader would have been allowed to debate — that would have been really great. I basically want the smartest guy running the ship, and as long as they don't fall asleep at the helm, I don't really care who wins.

This situation in Yugoslavia is really incredible. The people have had enough. History happening in real time.

Watching the Mariners play the Yankees. Still 0-0 in the bottom of the 4th. I really wanted tickets to the big game on Friday — my people were camping out in front of the Mariners store. I went down to visit them and drank all their beer, and some other people's too. It was fun, kind of like a party but different somehow. Next morning everybody got numbers. My buddies got 69, but the tickets sold out at 54. There are tickets floating around but they're all like $300. Too much for me.

Other than that, just a working dog. Still training for the Seattle Marathon — ran a nice 9 miles today.

Last week was Yugoslavia, this week it's Israel. All kinds of craziness brewing. Plus a US ship was attacked in Yemen — nuts. The Gulf of Tonkin comes immediately to mind.

Speaking of headlines: the M's lost to the Yankees 1-7, in a major insult in the bottom of the 8th, after we had been leading 1-0 for most of the game. We'll see how things go on Friday at the Safe. Back to sleep — I still have a few hours before work and don't want to waste them by actually being conscious.

At last the baseball season is over for us kids in Seattle. Sadly, we lost to the Yankees 6-9, but what a ride it was. The pressure was crazy, and I was all kinds of "emotional." [If you really want to know how emotional I was when I went to game 3 of the series, then send me an email — as I must edit that story for legal purposes.] Tonight I was shaking and almost hyperventilated.

Lucky, I was able to unwind after the game by going on a nice 5 mile run — in the pouring rain and wind. I felt kind of strange being that guy, but I think I will be a hard man when the Seattle Marathon comes around. Now I am relaxing, trying to move on to the next day. My house is clean, and so is my laundry. And now I must get back to the X-Files.
