Hello!! It's the New Year at last, and the holidays are over. I have been a busy guy at work, so don't have much to say. I have a lot of things planned for this year, and am eager to get started. Though, I will rest first while this rain storm blows over and the sun comes out. However, this is Seattle, so that may take awhile.

I am done cleaning my apartment. To do it, I had the following music in my CD player:

  • Kottonmouth Kings — Royal Highness
  • Kottonmouth Kings — High Society
  • Grateful Dead — Best of Skeletons in the Closet
  • Goldfinger — Self Titled
  • Beastie Boys — Hello Nasty
  • Sublime — 40 oz. To Freedom
  • Agent Orange — Real Live Sound

Now that I am done with that, I have the following in my liquor cabinet: Grey Goose Vodka, Alaskan Brewing Co. Smoked Porter, Don Julio Añejo Tequila.

I have been working on my computer for hours and have at last put everything in order. I have a new server and email address — my old one (Speakeasy) was just too unstable. The worst part is that they are right down the street, so problems should be a non-issue. Now I have this Earthlink thing, and it seems ok for now.

I did manage to ride my bike today — 15 miles, playing in traffic. I enjoy riding aggressively in traffic. I need to start up my exercise programme again after a month off from the holidays.

Watched a new show on BBCAmerica called Attachments. Also watched the original Survivor-type show on BBC called Castaway — both pretty good. I am just not into Dr. Who, et al.

In other news, I was able to take another 1.5 minutes off my 5-mile run, after a 2.5-minute improvement from yesterday. My previous time was 8 minutes per mile over 5 miles — 40 minutes flat.

Zack and his girlfriend came to town. We went up to Vancouver for a hockey game — Detroit Red Wings vs. the Canucks. The Red Wings won. Our seats were right on the glass on the home side's goal. Best part: a Kozlov cross-check right in our faces. I also caught a puck that McCarty flipped up during warm-up.

Later, walking downtown Vancouver, the power went out in the whole city. Completely blacked out. Because it was Canada, everybody was well-behaved — a few broken windows at the local Starbucks, but that always happens. The power was out for about an hour and a half, so we went back to our hotel at the Westin Grand and went to sleep. Oddly enough, the elevators worked but nothing else did.

Now I am back at work and working out. My running is moving along well — improved 6.5 minutes since the first of the year. So far, so good.

Ten days from my last posting. Just done watching Survivor on severe tape delay because of my schedule. Other than work, all I have had time for has been training. I think some of you are confused about exactly what I am training for. The plan is to run a few really cool races:

  • IIS Rocky Point Triathlon — April 21, 2001
  • Vancouver Marathon — May 6, 2001
  • Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon — June 10, 2001
  • Race Across California Enviro — June 11, 2001 (tentative)

It does involve a lot of time and discipline. Yet I somehow have more time? Strange. I did just finish a bike workout — 45 minutes, high cadence, low gear. I wish my pulse was higher, but it's all about economy, and my energy was really good. I can easily cycle for over 30 miles with hardly any effort at all. I must find something harder. A few climbs up Queen Anne Hill will do nicely.
